I am moving studio. Starting next month I will be working in the light filled garden basement of an 1870 building in downtown Charlottesville. The space is less than 10 minutes by foot from my house and consists of three rooms—the large studio, a smaller side room, and a large windowless storage room (equipped with its own vintage bathtub). There is a small bricked courtyard and garden in front, and a set of french doors leads into the studio.
I will share the space with my friend Susanne Carlsson, a sculptor and painter. The rest of the three story house is occupied by a group of body/mind practitioners and therapists, providing yet another dimension of community.
I am still involved with Chroma Projects, and my work continue to be on display there, but this new studio promises to be a better fit for my need to have a true working space, ready for concentration, creativity, and contemplation.
